From the founder
I graduated from Boston University in 2024, and that's when I started picking up spoken Arabic. Not read it, not memorize grammar tables — actually speak it. The dialect you hear on the streets. The one you won't find on Duolingo.
After two years of constant trial and error — bouncing between MSA textbooks that taught me Arabic nobody actually speaks, scattered YouTube channels, and apps that couldn't tell the difference between «أريد» and «بدي» — I finally figured out what works. Immersion in real content. Authentic dialogues. Repetition through games. A conversation partner that actually corrects your dialect, not your formal grammar.
Levantine Lens is everything I wished I had when I started. Every feature exists because I needed it and couldn't find it. The conversations cover situations I struggled through in real life. The phrasebook has the exact phrases I fumbled at restaurants and in taxis. The games are how I finally made vocabulary stick.
Even the photos you see across this platform — I took every single one myself, while exploring the Levant. This isn't a corporate product. It's the tool I built because it didn't exist.
Why Levantine?
Every major language app teaches Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) — the formal language of news anchors and textbooks. But here's the problem: nobody speaks MSA in daily life. It's like picking up Shakespearean English to order coffee in London.
Levantine Arabic («شامي») is the native dialect of over 30 million people across Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine. It's what families speak at home, what you hear in markets, what plays in movies and music. If you want to actually communicate with Arabic speakers, this is the language you need.
